The Department of Industrial Works led the raid on an old warehouse hiding dangerous chemicals in Phachi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
On March 3, 2023 , Mr. Chulaphong Thawisri, Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works, assigned Ms. Jinda Techasarin, Director of the Industrial Waste Management Division, Mr. Sunthorn Kaewsawang, Director of the Legal Division, Ms. Wichuda Samritphol, Director of the Western Industrial Pollution Research and Warning Center, Mr. Thawi Amphaphan, Director of the Eastern Industrial Pollution Research and Warning Center, along with Mr. Thira Kaewpimol, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Industry Officer, together with Ms. Apisara Ket-in, Phachi District Chief, Pollution Control Department officers, officers from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NRECD) and Phachi Police Station officers to visit an old warehouse without a business license located in Phachi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, to disperse forces to inspect and count hazardous chemicals after discovering the illegal storage of several types of hazardous chemicals. All hazardous waste was seized on February 27, 2023.
Upon entering the warehouse, which consists of 5 buildings, it was found that the entrance and exit doors connecting the buildings were solid bricks to conceal the hidden chemicals. Officers had to break down the walls to enter and found acidic liquids in 1,000-liter barrels, oil-like liquids in 200-liter barrels, and many other hazardous chemicals. In addition, traces of illegal movement of industrial waste, hazardous materials, and chemicals were found without permission. Furthermore, evidence indicated that the movement was related to a company that had received a factory operation license.
The Department of Industrial Works (DIW ) assessed the area to count all hazardous chemicals, totaling more than 4,000 tons, and collected samples of industrial waste, hazardous materials, including chemicals in the warehouse area and the surrounding area, as well as nearby agricultural areas, for laboratory testing and analysis, and to use as evidence in investigations to prosecute according to the Hazardous Substances Act B.E. 2535, the Factory Act B.E. 2535, and other related laws to the fullest extent.
